3 Silks for Upmarket

I have been busy weaving scarves ready for the next Perth Upmarket at UWA on 2 October, and had no time to photograph them or write blogs.

However, I can now show the first three which are silk scarves made from hand-dyed silk yarns.

The first is dyed sun orchid with the warp from the first pot and the weft from the second pot (and hence the weft is a lighter shade). The scarf is 1920mm x 205mm and weighs 100g.

The second is dusk coloured and dyed in the same pot. The lighter colour of the weft is due to the fact that it is a shiny yarn. The scarf is 1910mm x 210mm and weighs 102g.

The third is peppercorn coloured using the two pot method(and hence the light and dark - the weft is not really white). The scarf is 1910mm x 205mm and weighs 106g.

All three scarves, and others, will be on my stall on Sunday.

4 Japanese cottons

I was recently given 100g each of four cotton yarns brought to Australia by a Japanese friend. Each yarn was quite different and so four interesting, summer-weight, scarves have resulted.
The first is a Masterseed Cotton Print yarn which I used for both the warp and the weft. A short, narrow scarf 1240mm x 140mm weighing 78g has resulted. In the second scarf I used the three-tone white/fawn Japanese cotton yarn as the warp and a plain white cotton yarn as the weft. The resultant scarf is 1450mm x 200mm and weighs 141g.The third yarn was pink with some gold flecks which I used as the warp. A thin pink cotton yarn was used as the weft simply to tie the warp strands together. I put a narrow gold line in the scarf to complement the all over gold fleck. The scarf is 1500mm x 200mm and weighs 96g.Finally the fourth yarn was a pale blue cotton ribbon which I used as the warp, with a thin blue cotton yarn as the weft to tie the warp strands together. The scarf is 1670mm x 215mm and weighs 90g.The four scarves will be on sale on my stall at Perth Upmarket on the 2 October at UWA.

Burgundy acrylic

Whilst at the Balingup Medieval Carnivale I purchased 50g of a burgundy coloured crinkley acrylic yarn which I thought I could weave into an interesting scarf. Unfortunately the length of yarn restricted me to only a short 10cm wide warp. I used a light coloured possum/merino mix as the weft. The result is a short narrow scarf 1280mm x 90mm weighing 57g. The crinkle of the warp is only visible in the two fringes. Elsewhere an interesting mottled pattern is seen. I will test the public reaction to it at the Perth Upmarket at UWA on 2 October.

Salmon and orange silk

In getting ready for spring and summer I have woven two silk scarves. The first is coloured salmon and is 1730mm x 200mm and only weighs 45g. It does have a pattern but it is hard to see. The second scarf is in an orange coloured crinkley silk woven in tabby. It is 1650mm x 185mm and weighs 60g.Both scarves will be on sale on my stall at the Perth Upmarket 2 October at UWA.
